Vicki Moore - The SHSAA Award of Merit

Vicki Moore has been a positive influence and a driving force for high school athletics in the West Central District for more than 20 years. Vicki started her teaching and school sport coaching career in Plenty’s North West Central School in 1999 and was involved in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She has also been involved as a coach in Harris-Tessier Central School, Rosetown Central High School, Biggar and Elrose schools guiding many teams to district championships in basketball, volleyball, and badminton. Vicki’s teams and student athletes have also won SHSAA provincial medals in volleyball and badminton. She has also hosted many conference, district, and regional championships as well as SHSAA Provincial Championships including Cross Country (2002), 1A Boys Volleyball (2002), and Badminton (2007).

As a member of the West Central District for 15 years, Vicki has served on the District executive for the past decade. Her roles at District meetings have been numerous including coach, athletic director, administrator, and LEADS representative. Vicki has always had a positive rapport with colleagues, coaches and officials. She acted as the West Central Officials’ commissioner from 2007-2011 and has remained an advocate for coach and officials’ development advocating PD funding opportunities that school sport volunteers can access. As a voting delegate at the SHSAA Annual Meeting, Vicki has always positively represented the district and respectfully shared her views to improve student-athlete experiences. Her focus on student-athlete development has always helped to keep priorities in check as we develop young adults with strong leadership and character.

Vicki has provided leadership with SHSAA by serving on the SHSAA executive council in both the Women’s Representative (2003-2007) and LEAD’s Representative roles (2019 – present). During her time on the Executive, Vicki’s passion for sport and its role in empowering strong female student-athletes led to the creation of the Women in Sport Conference in 2007. Vicki was instrumental in that first conference and continues to support the SHSAA hosted conference by speaking or assisting the current Women’s Rep with the planning and execution of the event. For her dedication and commitment at the District and Provincial level, Vicki was awarded the West Central coach of the year in 2003, the West Central District Service award in 2011, and the SHSAA service award in 2016.

Vicki resides in Rosetown and is currently a Superintendent of Education with Sun West School Division. She is married to Stan and they have three children (Jenna, Brandon, and Joelle). Along with coaching high school sport, Vicki has been a community leader as a coach for speed swimming, softball and club badminton while also serving on the executive of the Rosetown Minor Athletic Association. Vicki also served as Rivers West Badminton coach for the 2010 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

Miles Bennett (Merit Award 2016) had the following to say about Vicki. “Vicki has been a tireless supporter of high school athletics in our Province. Everything she does is done with precision and with the needs of the students in mind. Her ground-breaking vision and implementation of the Women in Sport Conference in Saskatchewan has provided leadership training and motivation for hundreds of female athletes. It has easily become one of pillars of the SHSAA program. Vicki’s

contribution to high school sport and her servant leadership at the school, district and provincial level is testament to her dedication to the student athlete. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”

Her vision for success, her dedication and passion toward sport and its people, her incredible organizational skills, and her commitment to education through sport is what makes Vicki Moore West Central’s nomination for the SHSAA Merit Award.
